Living Tree
After the AquaDom aquarium burst, the Living Tree became the new green centerpiece of the hotel lobby at the Radisson Collection Hotel Berlin. This 16-meter-high vertical garden spans 120 square meters and extends up to the sixth floor, growing along 36 slats anchored to the concrete base of the former aquarium—a sustainable solution that saved approximately five tons of CO₂. The installation was completed in a very short time and within a confined space using a kinetic transport system, running in parallel with the hotel’s construction and damage restoration. With 2,000 plants from 22 different species, the Living Tree improves indoor air quality, filters the air, and regulates humidity. An innovative irrigation system and dynamic lighting concept ensure resource-efficient maintenance and a versatile atmosphere. As general contractor and planner, kpm3 implemented the design by dan pearlman brand architecture in collaboration with MKTe.
